We are SO excited to launch the ticket sales for our inaugural Baroque & Beyond Summer series. Thanks to the generosity of the Continuo Foundation, we will be performing six live music events across the Peak district. Baroque In The North is a Manchester-based performing arts charity. We specialise in music from the 16th-18th centuries, played on period instruments.
Since becoming a registered charity in 2018, Baroque In The North has been developing strategies to improve accessibility to and knowledge exchange via live music.
Music in Schools gives access to and participation in live music-making for KS2 children.
Come and Play! days are aimed at music teachers, amateurs, students and young people. These educational sessions give participants access to expert instruction in baroque instruments.
Baroque & Beyond is an initiative to take live music (and tea and cake!) to rural communities in the North West.
Baroque In The North’s debut album, Music for French Kings, was released on the Deux-Elles label in October 2022. It was a featured album on Radio 3’s Early Music Show. The album was awarded four out of five stars in BBC Music Magazine’s December 2022 issue.

For Choirs
Baroque In The North frequently provides period-instrument orchestras and ensembles for choirs wanting to perform the great choral works of the baroque period and beyond. We are able to enrich this experience with our expertise in authentic period instruments. Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Passions are particularly popular, but our repertoire has ranged from Monteverdi’s Vespers and Schutz’s Jesu Membra Nostri to Mozart’s Requiem.
We’re proud to have particularly close relationships with several choirs and conductors across the North of England with whom we work regularly. We are always happy to advise on instrumentation, forces and programming. Get in touch to discuss how we can bring your concert plans to life.

Baroque & Beyond!

Baroque & Beyond events are designed around the charity’s aim of improving accessibility to live music. They have the further aim of bringing communities together by performing live music in venues at the heart of rural communities.
Each Baroque & Beyond event consists of an hour of music followed by tea and cake, with the opportunity to talk to the performers. Held in daylight hours, on weekend afternoons, they are suitable for all ages and wheelchair accessible. We always include informal spoken introductions to each piece played.

Music in Schools
We offer educational workshops that are designed to fit the criteria of most of the key stage 2 requirements.
They are part of our commitment to meet our charitable aim of increasing accessibility to live music for people of all ages.
